The African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore said was disappointed that the President-elect, Bola Tinubu did not participate in the 2023 Abuja Marathon. Sowore stated this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday. He also expressed disappointment over the absence of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mohammed Bello, at the race. The rights activist was one of the participants in the maiden edition of the Abuja International Marathon. He said:  “This is the first Abuja marathon, I participated and I ran longer than I expected. I expected that the Minister of FCT would be here. “I was even expecting Tinubu to be here, but apparently, I am the only presidential candidate standing after the election. “I ran with kids, great kids. I am of the opinion that we are wasting a lot of talents in this country.” According to Sowore, sports was an important tool towards uniting Nigerians and generating employment for the youths.

Oluwatobi Ogunmola, a 400-level student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has died. The student, who was declared missing a few days ago, has been found dead. PUNCH Metro reports that Ogunmola was declared missing during the week. An informed campus source told our correspondent that his body was found dead hanging in a bush at Gambari in Ogbomoso, in the Surulere Local Government area of the state. Ogunmola, a student of Physics Department of the institution, was said to also be a mobile phone technician and solar system consultant. One of his Facebook friends, Adeleke Abel Ayoade, wrote on his page to sympathise with the family, “In time like this, we sympathise with the family of Ogunmola Taiwo on the death of (their) son who was found dead. The death came as a shock to everyone especially the people of Gambari in Ogbomoso. “Very calm and reserved brother. We pray God to console the family and rest the soul of the deceased.” ...

Emmanuel Dare, a Kaduna resident, has told how he was denied an employment opportunity as a social welfare officer at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Budo-Egba, in Kwara State, after he had been offered an appointment letter. Dare told that he secured the job and received an invitation in February to come for the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS) documentation in March. It was when he visited the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Budo-Egba that the officials he met told him he had no job, despite receiving an appointment letter. “I got a job, a federal job, in February. President-elect Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria one month after his trip to Europe for “rest” after what was described as “very exhaustive campaign and election season”. He arrived the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja to a crowd of his supporters who were waiting to receive him. Tinubu who left Nigeria through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos on March 22 for his post-election vacation was reportedly to plan his transition programme from his base ahead of May 29 inauguration. He was to spend the holiday in Paris, France and London in the United Kingdom. He was also expected to participate in the Lesser Hajj in the Holy Land in Saudi Arabia ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr Muslim festival. President-elect Tinubu is to spend the next 35 days at the Defence House in Abuja where he will be receiving daily security briefing as part of transition from ongoing administration of President Muhamamdu Buhari.
