Kogi State Government seals off First Bank branches over tax evasion

Kogi State Government has sealed off all First Bank of Nigeria branches operating in the state on the orders of a Kogi High Court sitting in Lokoja. The sealing was effected by the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, KGIRS, following the inability of the bank to liquidate its outstanding tax liabilities, of over N411.12m to the Kogi State Government. The Director of Legal Services at the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, Saidu Okino, while speaking with newsmen, said the amount represented outstanding withholding tax from the bank’s mobile banking agents from 2015 to 2022. He said that the action of the board was a result of the refusal of the bank to liquidate the liability, despite several demand notices. The seal-off was effected after a motion ex-parte was granted by the Kogi State High Court in Lokoja, where the revenue service, prayed for an Order of the Court to execute a Warrant of Distrain against the defendant by her goods, chattels, bonds, security or any other...

JAMB UPDATE; JAMB Seeks Autonomy

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede has called on the National Assembly to grant the agency autonomy. Oloyede who made this call when he appeared before the House of Representatives committee on finance at the going 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework session asked the federal government to stop funding the capital and overhead of the examination body.

CUPP alleges plot to stop the use of BVAS in 2023 General Elections

The Coalition of United Political Parties,CUPP has alleged a plot to stop the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the 2023 General Elections. It says the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Chairman may be removed. It gives evidence of fake voter registration from the INEC database.

Civilian JTF repel terrorists attack, kill 9 in Katsina

The Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, has repelled a terrorist attack in Batsari town, killing nine terrorists and arresting five others. A source in the area told ait.live that the terrorists invaded the town around 4:30pm on Sunday, riding on 10 motorcycles and wielding sophisticated weapons. He added that upon receipt of information by some locals, the Civilian JTF members confronted the terrorists, thereby halting their planned attack. It was also gathered that, out of the 10 motorcycles the terrorists came with for the operation, only one escaped from the town, as the CJTF captured nine of the motorcycles. According to the source, the terrorists had recently invaded the Batsari town and abducted some victims, but failed at this second attempt due to the presence of the civilian JTF. The Katsina State Police Command is yet to respond to the development as at the time of filing this report.

Medical Consultants express worries over challenges in Nigerian health sector

While speaking with journalists after its National executive meeting held in Benin city, Edo State, South South Nigeria, the consultants say the failure of government to address poor remuneration and other contentious issues have resulted in massive brain drain of health workers in the country.
