Chief Obafami Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo born in March 1909 to Chief David Sopolu Awolowo and his wife Mary Efunyela Awolowo, was a Nigerian nationalist, statesman and a political writer who influenced Nigerian politics positively. As a Yoruba and a native of Ikene in Ogun state,  Nigeria, he started his career as a school teacher, stenographer and later as Daily Times reporter.  He later became the secretary of (NYM) Nigerian youth movement (1933). He was the opposition leader in the parliament to the Tafawa Balewa government from 1959 to 1963. He is a recognized Yoruba political leader who led his people through the dark valley of politics.  In 1949, Awolowo founded the Nigerian Tribune, the oldest surviving private Nigerian newspaper. in 1947, he also formed the Egbe Omo Oduduwa which later metamorphosed into Action Group (AG) [which is also known as Egbe Afenifere in some Western part of Nigeria] in 1951, which he led to victory in the Western region elections...

Barely 48 hours when some members of dreaded Boko Haram ambushed convoy of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum along Cross Kauwa-Baga road in Borno state leaving over 30 people dead including 10 policemen and 4 soldiers, another set of insurgents laid ambush along Monguno- Maiduguri axis and attacked the returning convoy on Sunday evening. Monguno is north and about 80km drive to Maiduguri, the town hosted thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) mostly from Marte, Baga, Kukawa, Dikwa and other surrounding Local Government Areas. Sources said, the attack led to the shooting of a back tyre of the vehicle/bus conveying Journalists attached to the governor, but the driver manuveared and drove the vehicle on the flat wheel to escape the scene. IgbereTV reports that a 17-year-old boy identified as Daniel James, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly defiling 7 and 5-year-old sisters. The police spokesperson, DSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, who made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday, September 19, said that the suspect was arrested after the victims’ parents reported at the ‘D’ Division Bauchi. The statement reads: “On the 17/09/2020 at about 1809hrs one Hannatu Sadiq ‘f’ aged 35yrs of Nassarawa Jahun Bauchi and Hajara Abdullahi ‘f’ aged 25yrs of the same address jointly came to ‘D’ Division Bauchi and reported that on the same date at about 1600hrs one Daniel James ‘m’ aged 17yrs of the same address, raped their two daughters named Hasiya (not real name) ‘f’ aged 7yrs of the same address and Hauwa (not real name) ‘f’ aged 5yrs of the same address.” The PPRO said:  “On receipt of the report team of Policemen was drafted to the scene. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has applauded the United States of America for imposing a visa ban on some Nigerian politicians, accused of undermining the electoral process in Nigeria. This comes ahead of the September and October 2020 governorship polls in Edo and Ondo States respectively. The Department of State’s spokesman, Morgan Ortagus, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. The opposition said the ban was “an unambiguous caution” to former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, the APC governorship candidates in Edo, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his Ondo counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu.” This was contained in a statement signed by PDP’s spokeman, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Tuesday. Ologbondiyan urged the US government to extend the ban to family members and assets of the affected politicians. PDP also called on the European Union (EU) as well as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, to also impose similar sanctions on electoral violators....

Police operatives have arrested 67-year-old James Olajoyetan for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl who came to spend the recently marked Sallah with her visually impaired grandfather in Ejigbo area of Lagos State . The suspect, a commercial tricycle operator, was alleged to have defiled the girl four times since she came visiting. It was gathered that one of the occasions was in her grandfather’s one-room apartment. He was alleged to have gagged her mouth to prevent her from shouting in order not to alert her blind grandfather. However, at the weekend, Olajoyetan, a widower, was said to have called the girl, pretending to send her on an errand. Explaining her ordeal, the victim said: “When I went, I stood in front of his door. He told me to come inside to collect the money. When I did, he shut the door and raped me.
