Police in Rivers State said on Wednesday that at least 25 children and six pregnant women have been rescued from a baby factory in Port Harcourt, the state capital. The spokesman of the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, said the development followed the offensive launched by the command’s E-Crack Team against the baby trafficking syndicate operating at Oyigbo and Trans Amadi in the Port Harcourt metropolis on Tuesday. He said: “Following intelligence reports, our men discovered a baby factory and rescued 25 children and six pregnant women with some other suspects believed to be owners of the place. They are presently at Mile 1 Police Station.” He said police had commenced moves to track down the other members of the gang.

According to The Nation, Mr. Kaycee Osamwonyi, an aide to Governor Godwin Obaseki, has been suspended from the ruling All Progressives Congress for allegedly engaging in acts of thuggery, hooliganism and causing factions within the party. Kaycee was suspended by APC leaders in Ward six Uhunmwode local government area. The motion for the suspension of Kaycee was moved by Hon. Harrison Orobor and adopted by party members present at the meeting. Other reasons adduced for the suspension of Kaycee were engaging in activities that have brought the APC to ridicule and opprobrium in Ward 06 and promoting subversion and breaches of the Constitution of the APC. Minister of Information and Culture, Laim Mohammed has disclosed that Nigeria realized $104m from the creative industry in 2019. Speaking during a working visit to the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday February 25, the Minister described the film industry as the least untapped part of the economy. Hence, he averred that the creative industry is the fastest growing sector of the economy with $53 million and $51 million accrued last year from film and music respectively. This is sad! A 400 level Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) student (Name withheld) was found dead inside the room of a security man in her hostel after she allegedly smoked marijuana and inhaled generator fumes throughout the night with him. According to reports making the rounds, the sad incident happened at Anita Lodge, close to Royal bed, Ifite Awka. The deceased reportedly went to the security man’s room, who is from the North to charge her phone, and she decided to join him in smoking his weed before sleeping off. She died presumably after inhaling the generator fumes as the place was not properly ventilated. The security man is reportedly in a state of coma and is currently at a hospital receiving treatment.

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Agriculture on Friday announced that 300,000 jobs will be created in Plateau, through its Agriculture Mechanisation Scheme. 91 members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites, many of whom have been detained in prison since 2015 have been acquitted after being arraigned before Justice Hajaratu Gwada of Kaduna High Court. Justice Gwada who ruled on the case in which some of the IMN members were charged with culpable homicide punishable with death, criminal conspiracy and disturbance of peace on Friday February 21, said the Kaduna State Government failed to failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
