The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and other matters has approved the returned control of the Lekki Toll Gate plaza to its owners, the Lekki Concession Company (LCC). The panel suspended operations of the toll plaza after the gunshot incident on October 20, 2020. Military men stormed the plaza on Tuesday, October 20, and fired gunshots while EndSARS protesters gathered at the toll plaza for their protest. LCC had in December 2020, appealed to the panel to allow it to take over the plaza for repair and insurance claims. This was declined by the panel since investigations into the unfortunate incident that led to the closure was still being investigated. Rafia Muhammad, the co-housemaid of the16-year-old housemaid, Khadija Rabiu has retracted her statement in which she claimed that the deceased was beaten to death by their employer, Fatima Hamza (Ummi). The UMC Hospital in Kano has been shut down, The Nation reports. The hospital was shut down for attending to “severe cases” of COVID-19 instead of referring the patients to isolation centres provided by the State Government. “The action by UMC hospital is in parallel with the standard set by the Kano State Task Force on COVID-19, which requires such facility to attend only to mild cases of the disease,” Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said in a statement on Wednesday. It was gathered the behaviour of the UMC hospital led to the death of two patients whose cases were severe. Garba announced one of the patients died at UMC while the other died on the way to the hospital. According to the Ministry of Health, the total coronavirus deaths in Kano has risen to 82 with 11 new cases and 3,047 total confirmed cases out of which 359 cases are very active. Tsekiso Jonas Tshabalala, the drunk South African policeman who was arrested few months ago on charges of drinking and driving, and using a state car without authorisation has been dismissed from the police force. The 39-year-old South African Police Service (SAPS) constable, who was found guilty in an internal disciplinary process, still faces charges of driving under the influence and using a car without permission. The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena confirmed the dismissal and also revealed that Tshabalala was officially dismissed on 26 January 2021 after an internal disciplinary process found him guilty of being fully uniformed and intoxicated.

A member of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Adefisoye, has revealed how civil servants are inflating amounts for nominated constituency projects. Adefisoye, also known as Small Alhaji in a tweet on Monday disclosed details of a N40m project he nominated. According to him, the bill of quantities reveals some details about the project, and he vowed to take on the matter. He reveals that N1.5million was allocated for inspection and N400,000 for fueling of operational vehicles. Also, N700,000 to be spent on procuring generator to power the project after completion. Adefisoye who is a first timer in the House disclosed that N2m is set aside for contingency fee.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has placed a ban on gatherings of more than 50 people in an enclosed space. Sanwo-Olu issued the directive in line with the COVID-19 health protection regulations 2021 signed last week by the President Muhammadu Buhari. He said that religious centres were not affected, but must limit gatherings to 50 percent of their capacities. “The state government has observed with dismay the widespread flagrant disregard and non-adherence to guidelines and protocols aimed at stemming and curbing the tide of infection,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said. “We particularly note that some event centres have been operating their premises outside the acceptable parameters for operation/usage and continue to be recalcitrant in this regard. “This is to sound a very serious note of warning that henceforth all those found culpable and in breach of the existing regulations and guidelines would be swiftly and decisively dealt with in full accordance with the provisions of t...
