Unknown gunmen attacked some Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials travelling from Abuja to Lagos at Oshawa along the Lokoja-Okene highway at about 1:50 pm on Friday, November 29th. The bandits killed the driver and left the other staff in the vehicle critically injured. A statement by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, disclosed that the two personnel were ambushed by the gunmen after Zariagi on Lokoja – Okene road.  He said that the incident happened at Oshawa, a town close to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital. “The kidnappers, according to first information report, were said to have opened fire at the sight of the marked vehicle and unfortunately shot the driver in the head, killing him instantly. “The vehicle subsequently lost control and veered off the road. According to a report by The Nation, an ex-Senator, Emmanuel Onwe from Ebonyi State, a former Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Friday Komboyein and four others have been arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in Abuja on charges of breach of code of conduct for public officers. A statement by CCT’s spokesman, Ibraheem Zakariya said while Onwe (a former Commissioner in Ebonyi) was arraigned alone on a charge in which he was accused of refusing to return his asset declaration form at the appropriate time, Komboyein and others were arraigned on a separate charge in which they are accused of abusing their offices. Those arraigned with the ex-Speaker are: two former Clerks – Aaron Timiye and Owudogu Edward; and two other ex-Accountants – Thomas Tamaraodubo and Koroye Stephen. According Zakariya, all the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were arraigned on Wednesday.

A promising student of University of Port Harcourt has taken his life after a WhatsApp post. A 500-Level Electrical Engineering student of the University of Port Harcourt, Prince Digbani has committed suicide shortly after announcing it via his WhatsApp story. The deceased took the action in his room on Monday, after repeatedly complaining to friends about his lack of fulfilment in life. His friends said he had earlier told them of his intention and they strongly advised him against it. They added that he went home to his off-campus apartment and by 3:51 pm on Monday, started updating suicidal posts on his Whatsapp story. They said they called him severally but he refused to answer as his updates became more worrisome. His co-tenants later broke his door and found him convulsing after taking a poisonous substance. He was then rushed to the Lulu-Briggs medical centre where he was pronounced dead.

President Muhammadu Buhari has terminated the debt recovery contract awarded to Trobell International Limited by Abubakar Malami, the attorney-general of the federation, because of the “incredible” commission to be paid, TheCable can report. Trobell was engaged by Malami to recover the estimated $43 billion unpaid arrears to Nigeria from the production sharing contracts (PSCs) with multinational companies — and the commission was set at five percent. Effectively, Trobell would be pocketing $2.15 billion — or N774 billion — as commission. By comparison, the 2019 budget of Lagos, the most economically viable state in the country, is N874 billion.
