Honduran opposition presidential candidate Xiomara Castro will seek to negotiate a new debt deal with the International Monetary Fund, but opposes raising taxes or creating new ones, according to a senior adviser. Castro, nearly 20 points ahead of her nearest rival in a preliminary vote count of Sunday’s election, aims to lower debt service payments, said Hugo Noe on Tuesday, head of her campaign’s policy platform. An existing IMF deal with Honduras runs through January, when Castro will be sworn in as the country’s first woman president if her advantage in the vote count holds up. “A dialogue with the International Monetary Fund has begun,” Noe told Reuters. He did not offer a specific timeline. The police in Anambra State, Nigeria’s South-east, said two of their officers have been shot dead and their bodies burnt by their attackers. One officer is still missing, according to the police. The slain officers were traveling in a vehicle with five other officers and three civilian drivers when they were ambushed by gunmen on Thursday in some community in Anambra, the police spokesperson in the state, Ikenga Tochukwu, said in a statement on Saturday. “In the attack two police officers were killed and their bodies were burnt while one of the officers is still missing,” said Mr Tochukwu, a deputy superintendent of police. The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, on Saturday, raised the alarm that bandits and kidnappers have relocated to Kwara and Kogi States respectively, noting that the spate of insecurity in the two states is becoming disheartening and alarming. Recall that telecommuniction service was suspended in October due to activities of bandits. Abia state police command has arrested 40-year-old Appolos Ndubuisi along with his co-conspirator, Rose Godwin Chinweikpe, 66 for selling a baby boy belonging to one Deborah Onukaogu, 24 a supposed wife of Appolos Ndubuisi, ABN TV reports.
