A Kwara State magistrate court sitting in Kaiama has sentenced a 28-year-old man, Abubakar Bani, to six months imprisonment for stealing tubers of yam. Bani was arraigned by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command for stealing tubers of yam from farms in Tenebo village, Kaiama local government area of the state. The Public Relations Officer of the corps in the state, Babawale Afolabi, said the suspect was caught on August 30, 2021, at about 6:00 a.m. by one Ismaila Ebbo Mohammed and his neighbours of Kibefandi compound, Kaiama. “According to the complainants, the Fulani boy has been stealing their yams in the farm on a daily basis. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has raised an alarm on the alleged persecution Christians in the country are being subjected to. Operatives of the Niger State State Police Command have arrested four suspects for banditry in Rafi local Government Area and recovered two locally fabricated guns. Nigeria’s Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila were paid in dollars (millions of naira) to ensure the passage of the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, SaharaReporters has learnt. A top source told SaharaReporters that other federal lawmakers –senators and House of Representatives’ members –also received bribes in dollars to ensure the passage of the bill. “Lawan was paid $2 million (N823 million) while Gbajabiamila was paid $1.5 million (N617 million) as bribes,” the source said. Nigeria expects to lift its ban on Twitter before the end of the year, Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, told Reuters on Thursday, adding that the government was awaiting a response on three final requests made of the social media platform. Mohammed said the government had reached agreements on seven of 10 requests made to Twitter but was waiting for the company’s response on final issues, including setting up a local office, paying tax locally and cooperating with the government to regulate content and harmful tweets. Mohammed said:  “We certainly want to put this behind us before the end of the year,”  Twitter declined to comment.
